Maddie Hatter and the Deadly Diamond by Jayne Barnard

I bought myself this book on Saturday and I read Maddie Hatter and the Deadly Diamond by Canadian Author Jayne Barnard over the weekend. This is a Steampunk Adventure Mystery currently recommended for readers of 12 and older. It was a fun read, I can totally see why younger readers and not so young readers like myself have so many wonderful things to say about this book. We set off on a grand adventure over land, sea and sky with Maddie who is undercover as an investigative journalist and navigating a world that is expectedly beneath her stature as the daughter of a Steamlord! So much to love in this strong and industrious main character. Her clockwork bird is more than a pet, more than a constant companion and a brilliant addition to the story. I loved this story and found it really easy to imagine, even plausible in an implausible way. Lovely read and first in what I hope is a long running series.

Sweet Tea and Spirits by Angie Fox

I finished Sweet Tea and Spirits by Angie Fox last night and it was a great ghost mystery with a fun and exciting twist I did not see coming when I sat down to read it. Now I am almost convinced I read an earlier book in this series as I felt so at home in this paranormal cozy.
What makes this a fun read is the hierarchy of the community and social status not just among the living but also with the very active community of the undead as well.  I would absolutely read another book in this series happily!

Southern girl Verity Long is about as high society as her pet skunk. Which is why she’s surprised as anyone when the new head of the Sugarland social set invites her to join the "it" girls. But this is no social call. Verity’s new client needs her to go in undercover and investigate strange happenings at the group’s historic headquarters. But while spirits are whispering hints of murder, the socialites are more focused on Verity’s 1978, avocado-green Cadillac. And when Verity stumbles upon a fresh body, she's going to need the long-dead citizens of Sugarland to help her solve the crime. Good thing she has the handsome deputy sheriff Ellis Wydell on hand, as well as her ghostly sidekick Frankie. The bad thing is, the ghosts are now whispering about the end of a certain ghost hunter.

You can find Sweet Tea and Spirits by Angie Fox on Amazon by clicking here.

A Saturday To Remember...

Happy Sunday Morning to you, while I had hoped to share a book review this morning, I had a very busy day yesterday and did not get a chance to finish the book I was reading. Yesterday was a baseball day,  my Son's birthday and birthday party here and a surprise party/paint nite for my friend Jo's birthday, this was a very busy day indeed.
My sister and 5 of my friends and I had a blast and we made the theme of my friends birthday a Sunflower Themed.
My friend Anna and I made up these birthday Corsages, with a pin of our friend in the middle. They were fun and easy to make and pulled the evening together.
Getting to spend time with my sister and my friends is a luxury for sure, and not something we often do. I feel very blessed to have these amazing women in my life and had a day to treasure always!

Paint Nite was a fun way to spend time with friends, create something I did not think was possible and got to take something home to be proud of.  Paint Nite did not make me an artist but it did make me want to keep painting. This was a day I will cherish for years to come and promise to get back to reading now! Click here to learn more about Paint Nite.
On my table now is Maddie Hatter and the Deadly Diamond by Jayne Barnard at time of posting on sale now at Amazon.ca for 99 cents!
Thank you for joining me for a cup of tea and a cozy Saturday to remember. I would love to hear from you so please leave me a comment here or email me at karenmowen@gmail.com

On My Table and In My Cup May 13th-20th

On my table this week I had the great honor of having Bloodline by Vicki Vass on my table.  This is a new Paranormal Cozy Mystery with a lovely dedication and I was honored and thrilled to find that Vicki Vass had included my name in her book. This story is one that loved and was thrilled with the story, mystery and dedication. I loved this book so much I wish I could purchase it for you all!

I am currently reading through Angie Fox's book Sweet Tea and Spirits it is a very intriguing mystery.
I also shared a review of  a great resource boom by Laura Temest Zakroff , this series is by Llewellyn.
It has been very much a paranormal cozy mystery weeks with Bailey Cattrell's Nightshade for Warning, loved the idea of this cozy and can not wait to read another!
Putting up the tea tent felt like a huge victory this weekend, thankful that my dad and niece were able to help put up and partake in the first "tea"
This has been a truly wonderful week for me, the books, the company and the tea tent have brought so much joy to each day.
Thank you for joining me here for a cup of tea and a cozy mystery week in review. I look forward to sharing more with you again tomorrow.  I would love to hear from you so please leave me a comment here or email me at karenmowen@gmail.com

Tea Tent Is Now Up and Open To Receiving Guests!

Yesterday was the first really nice day here this week and my dad an my niece came over to help me erect the tea tent.  For my 40th birthday a little while ago a friend bought me an outdoor tent that I transformed into an outdoor escape. I called it the tea tent the old one is shown above.

Well sadly on December 10th,  just before we moved the original tea tent collapsed under what I thought was a freak ice/snow storm. We just don't get snow like that here normally so I never thought to take the tea tent down.  I was devastated, so many happy memories in that tent!
My dad found one online and on sale in December to replace my special place. It has sat in my basement since we moved. We had 4 more major snow storms during and after we moved so I had not even dared to put it up. This weekend however is the May long weekend for Victoria Day, a celebration of  Queen Victoria's Birthday and for us in this house a 4 day weekend.

The tent we put up yesterday is  a little different, lighter weight and easier to put together ( so taking it down in the fall should be easier too).  This is a photo of my first two guests who helped me put it together yesterday. My dad and my niece PB who's sisters were shown in the tea photo above and who at the time was too little to enjoy a tea party.  She and I get to spend a lot of time together so we will have many more tea parties to come.
Even though everything in my life feels so different now in the new house, new neighborhood I started to feel a bit more at home as soon as I hung up my chandelier.  If you are a long time reader you may recognize it, I turned this once indoor candle holder into a solar powered outdoor chandelier for the tea tent and it is one of my most favorite repurposed items ever .
I am happy to say the tea tent is now open to receive guests as early as this weekend, I think I need to go bake some scones now...
While they are baking I will go read a bit more of Sweet Tea and Spirits by Angie Fox.
Thank you for joining me for a cup of tea and a cosy tea tent update.

The Witches Cauldron by Laura Tempest Zakroff

The Witches Cauldron by Laura Tempest is a book from a series I love from Llewellyn Books. There is a wonderful amount of information on the use of cauldrons, and their place in witchcraft history and modern day. This is a useful and lovely resource for those who like me love learning about witchcraft history and it is a very interesting read. This is a book I can not wait to have a print copy of.

While I have this book as an e-copy I am considering purchasing this one for my own collection.
Thank you for joining me for a cup of tea and a "magical" book review. I would love to hear from you so please leave me a comment below or email me at karenmowen@gmail.com

Nightshade For Warning by Bailey Cattrell

This week I took my time in finishing Nightshade for warning a second in series by Bailey Cattrell, who I learned is also Bailey Cates. I really enjoyed this mystery. It had lots of elements I thought made it special. I like the magical twist as this is very paranormal lite, but I also loved the idea of the main character Ellie living in a tiny house, with her Corgi and who has an amazing Enchanted Garden set up with lots of little fairy gardens. Ellie is completely likeable, relatable too. She is the older sister to a much younger 1/2 brother and sister, and seems to be the glue that holds her family and her community together. Great supporting cast, twists and turns I could not help but smile about. I also wish I had her keen sense of smell and green thumb. I think you will enjoy this book on its own even if you have not read the first one, not having read the first one I felt like I was right in step in book two. Really good read, great cozy and come on a Corgi as a pet! This is one to read and enjoy!

This book is out now and you can find it on Amazon by clicking here.

Bloodline By Vicki Vass

Bloodline by Vicki Vass is the newest paranormal cozy series and is one that gets my vote for best new paranormal cozy mystery of the year. I read this book with wide excited eyes and wonderment. This book felt so real to me. Saying "I loved it" is an understatement. This book is written in a very unique way, offers the reader the chance to escape, it has the magic to transport the reader and not make you want to find your way back to reality. I could not put it down and I read it all in one night. This is a book I want everyone I know to read.
As a lifelong lover of stories of Witches, Witchcraft and Magic, this story was so different and it transported me to a place I could never have imagined and yet felt completely at home in.
With the "wide-eyed" excitement,  heart quickening action and all the feels a cozy can have, this book has so much to offer.  If I could buy the cozy world a book this would be the book I buy them! I can not wait for you to read it and share your thoughts with me!
Let's talk about the amazing cover shall we? This is also a book cover I would absolutely frame. I bought this book on Amazon and you can find it by clicking here.

Fleeing from the witch trials in Salem, Terra Rowan finds herself in modern day Asheville, North Carolina. A dark spirit from the past hunts the last witch of Salem. With the help of the ladies of the Biltmore Society, Terra must discover the secret within the forest to preserve the bloodline.
I am honored to have this book on my table and on my Kindle App as well. You can find it on Amazon for  Kindle by clicking here

Sunday Morning Mothers Day Tea

It is Sunday morning, Mother's Day and I have just gotten up. I did not prepare a post for today ahead of time and I did not get any reading finished to share a review. I did run around most of yesterday, having 4 events to attend which pretty much did me in and then homework with one of my sons that took up the rest of my energy and then some.

So this morning I shall leave you with a writing prompt quote by Linda Wooten and wish you a very Happy Sunday, if today is a day you celebrate with your mom, remember about your mom or you are a mom who is celebrated, I wish you a lovely day.

Thank you for joining me for a cup of tea today. I would love to hear from you so please leave me a comment here or email me at karenmowen@gmail.com

On My Table and In My Cup May 6th to the 13th

No idea how the week has already come and gone, far to fast and yet a long time coming. This week has been a busy one for us as usual but I have had the good fortune to find time to read some lovely books this week and I have enjoyed a fair amount of  Murchie's tea.
I just started Bailey Cattrell's Nightshade For Warning. Bailey Catrell is also Bailey Cates and author I have enjoyed in the past. This was something I did not know when I requested it. I found this to be a happy coincidence.
I had Peg Cochran's Dead and Berried on my table this week along with
Ellery Adams Killer Characters, this was a very complex and sophisticated cozy, a must read for sure!
Death in Dark Blue was an outstanding read as well Julia Buckley has outdone herself in this suspenseful cozy mystery, I could not believe what I was reading and at one point wanted to throw the book across the room, I was so wrapped up in the story it was so good!
I also read Missed Spelled this week by an Australian Cozy Author Morgana Best. this was a free cozy that was an easy and enchanting read.
Mother's day is tomorrow and I shared my own Mother tea cup along with some wonderful Etsy ones. I wish you a very Happy Mother's day tomorrow to all who celebrate, I also wish you peace to all who mourn the loss of their mothers or motherhood in general. It is not the easiest of Sunday's for so many.

Thank you for joining me for a cup of tea and a week in review. I look forward to sharing more with you tomorrow. I would love to hear from you so I invite you to leave a comment or email me at karenmowen@gmail.com

Dead and Berried by Peg Cochran

I finished Dead and Berried, a Cranberry Cover Mystery by Peg Cochran yesterday. I love the cover on this cozy, I feel it truly captures the feel of the farm and sets the right tone for the book. I think that the relationship between the main character Monica and her brother is very well written. The dynamic of their sibling interactions is one I really enjoy. The mystery in this one was not what I expected and it took me a while to figure out. The mystery I found quite plausible and it had a very cozy ending!
Dead and Berried by Peg Cochran is out now and you can find it on Amazon by clicking here.

Mother Tea Cups On Etsy

Above is a photo I did on Mother's Day a few years ago, this cup actually belonged to my mother's adoptive mother, pretty sure my mother bought it for her. If you don't know yet Mother's Day is Sunday, truth be told not a day I really look forward too as my my own mother passed away 6.5 years ago, and in reality I am not much for Halmark Holidays. However I do appreciate a fantastic teacup and saucer and put aside my bitterness to share with you some beautiful Etsy fun finds....
The above teacup is one I would love to have in my collection for sure. This one is priced out of my range but would be a true treasure to have. This one is offered at $124.99 in the 222nest Etsy Shop you can view it and more beautiful photos of it by clicking here.
English Garden Tea Shop has this sweet Queen Anne  this one is listed at $41.67
I have to share this one, my mother loved carnations,  although there is gold lost at the top I like this one! Listed at $15 you can tell someone really liked and used it!
Lastly this one I found I really like as it says Mother Dear on it! This one is priced at $38.00 and can be found in the When Roses Bloom Etsy Shop

Keep these in mind for yourself of a Mother you love. I will go back to reading now and hope to have a review to share with you tomorrow of Dead and Berried.
Thank you for joining me for a cup of tea and some Mothers Day Etsy finds, as  with all my posts I would love to hear from you so please leave me a comment here or email me at karenmowen@gmail.com
